HISTORY: A centralized state has existed since the 4th century. Japan experienced the Great Depression in the 1920s which led to acute economic problems and military domination. By 1955 a strong co-operative arrangement was in place between the political parties, bureaucracy and business.

OTHER FACTS: Despite several years of low growth, Japan still has the second largest economy in the world. Japanese men and women enjoy the highest life expectancy in the world.

Elim in Japan

In early 1931 the first Elim Missionary, Violet Hoskins, went to Kobe in Japan. In this Buddhist nation she found it to be a land of broken hearts and bodies. The main method of evangelism was through open air services and many found Christ as a result. She remained in Japan for over ten years.

Many years later Elim is again reaching out to the people of Kobe through Elim Missionaries Jim and Kayo Davies.
